Triphala, the revered "three-fruit" formula of Ayurveda, is one of the most time-tested remedies for chronic constipation. Composed of Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), this combination works as a gentle bowel tonic rather than a harsh laxative. In the Ayurvedic tradition, Triphala is considered a Rasayana (rejuvenative) that balances all three doshas while promoting healthy elimination. Research suggests it supports intestinal motility, gut microbiome diversity, and has antioxidant properties.
Ingredients
- Warm Water1 cup
- Triphala Powder1/2 to 1 tsp
- Raw Honey1/2 tsp, added after cooling below 40C
Dosage Guidance
Mix 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Triphala powder in a cup of warm (not hot) water. Drink 30 minutes before bedtime on an empty stomach. Start with a lower dose and increase gradually. Alternatively, take 2 Triphala tablets before bed. Allow 2—3 weeks for full effect.
