Why Morning Matters The hours between 6 and 10 AM are Kapha time — characterized by heaviness, stability, and slowness. If you sleep through this period or start your day chaotically, Kapha accumulates, leaving you feeling sluggish. The Ayurvedic morning routine is specifically designed to counteract this by gently activating your system. The Essential Practices 1. Wake Before Sunrise (or by 6 AM) The Brahma Muhurta — roughly 90 minutes before sunrise — is considered the most auspicious time for spiritual practice. For practical purposes, waking by 6 AM ensures you are up before Kapha energy peaks. Start with what is realistic for you. 2. Scrape Your Tongue Before drinking anything, use a copper or stainless steel tongue scraper to remove the overnight coating (Ama) from your tongue.
